Hola my angels ❣Hope you’ll are doing fab as always! Well if you’ve been following me on Instagram, you might have been aware of the fact that off lately I’ve been constantly travelling to attend weddings. In fact my latest saree posts has raised a lot of queries on whether I’ve lost weight or there’s some reason behind looking slim in saree.
Well guys this blog is to clear all your doubts. Also I would be revealing some of my tricks or rather saree hacks that I usually follow to look slim in sarees ☺! I’m sure these tricks would up your saree game like never before and you gonna thank me for this later ! Enough of jibber jabber, let’s begin with the real stuff!
1. Opt for dark shades!
My very first trick is to select saree shades that are dark. And dark colours are the safest bet for women of all shapes and sizes as they help cover up the problem areas of your body while accentuating your assets. In fact it’s been universally accepted fact that dresses in dark shades make you look thin & the same applies to sarees too. Also personally I’m a sucker for dark shades so it works well for me. You can also try it out next time you wear a saree and notice the difference .
2. Ditch short sleeves blouses!
Let’s face it, half sleeved blouses have been done to death for decades now. So, pick blouses with quarter sleeves to lend an air of elegance to your look. Blouses with long sleeves also create an illusion of a taller frame. Also for people like me with flabby arms these blouses act as saviours. They hide the unwanted fats and thus making your arms look slim and toned. Try it out! Trust me it really works!
3. Draping saree below navel!
Yet another hack for how to look slim in a saree lies in tying it below the navel. Doing this will help you in covering all the contours of your saree while also elongating your frame. As opposed to this, tying your saree above your navel would only serve to give you a stout look. If you’ve noticed my saree pics on Instagram you would see that I always tie it below my navel for almost every type of saree.
4. Keep the pallu length long!
The way you wear your pallu can make or break your look. There is no right or wrong way of draping the pallu, but it is important to know that some drapes will effectively make you look slimmer. Long length of pallu gives an illusion of being tall thereby making you look slim and sleek! Also when it comes to silk sarees like these, I make sure I iron my pleats as that keeps them in place. Also it gives a more organised look to my saree!
5. Mind the saree pallu width!
If you are putting shoulder pleats, make sure the pleats aren’t any broader than the width of one full palm of your right hand. The entire width from the left edge of your thumb to the right edge of your little finger. You could take this as an unspoken rule of thumb. Never fails. Don’t make the edge of the sari drop over your shoulder.
6. Waist pleats are also important!
Try to make a few broad pleats in the front, so that the part you tuck in does not add to the size of your waist. Making too many small pleats would make a gathered appearance at the tummy area and also look clumsy. Also if possible put one or two extra pins to those waist pleats to keep them in place for a sleek toned look!
7. Hairstyle for your saree!
I know this sounds weird and got to do nothing with saree draping but trust me ladies, your hairstyle matters a lot when it comes to looking slim in saree. Never go for flat look like a centre parting or so as it would make you look stout in saree. Rather opt for hairstyles with slight puff on the centre or even from sides the way I have done in these pics! This way your hairstyle adds to your height eventually making you look tall and slim! Infact this trick not just works with sarees but other outfits too!
This is it ladies! With this we come towards the end of this saree draping hacks blog! A little disclaimer here! Most of what I have written are rules I have set for myself based on my body type and based on what looks good on me. It may be different for you!
Some say, that you have to opt for small borders on the saree, others recommend to go with less busier prints to look slim ! I follow whatever works best for me. It may vary from individual to individual so keep experimenting with various styles until you arrive at what you like. Cheers!
