Hola my angels ❣ With March being a month to celebrate womanhood, here I’m today with this special blog for women’s day, showcasing how present Bollywood boss girls are ruling the industry by giving a strong competition to their male co-actors! Be it the girl squad from Veere Di Wedding to the raw power shown by Anushka Sharma in NH10,t these girls are definitely here to stay and of course to slay! Bollywood grew up with passing years but mostly kept its mesmerizing heroines on the pillion seats. However, the times have changed and the women in Bollywood don’t need to be rescued by the hero anymore.
Today, women’s powerful screen presence and diversified talent are attracting full house audiences and critical acclaim. Hence, on this special day, here are some movies about women who are ambitious, fearless, and most importantly, inspiring. The emotions here range from sassy to serious, thrilling to awe-inspiring, funny to intense. So let’s have a look at these movies, which by the way, can be found on ZEE5!
The protagonist is a simple housewife who is indirectly bullied by her own husband and daughter for her poor English knowledge. Things turn around when she gets a chance to visit New York for her niece’s wedding. There she decides to learn English without letting anyone know about her enrolment into an English speaking course. Her journey of learning English and the results it yields is simply beautiful and leaves a smile on your face. English Vinglish sees the great actress Sridevi ji giving one of her best performances. Director Gauri Shinde has done a remarkable job with English Vinglish! So, if you want to relive this inspiring story, you can watch English Vinglish online on ZEE5!
Naam Shabana is the story of a girl named Shabana, her journey spans from being an aggressive girl who carries guilt and a dark past on her shoulders to becoming a spy for the intelligence agency of the country. It also traces her first major mission that involves eliminating an international arms dealer. Beautifully played by Taapsee Pannu, Shabana is a character that you root throughout the movie! Taapsee Pannu not just looks promising in this role but even her action sequences definitely deserve a special mention!
Anushka not only produced this movie but also made sure she single-handedly carried the movie with her powerful on-screen performance. No one could have played this role better than Anushka Sharma. Focussing on the menace of honour killing, the movie follows an urban couple getting accidentally involved in a similar case. What follows is a heart-stopping tale of violence and survival. Apart from Anushka, I would like to give another big shoutout to this other woman, Deepti Naval for being an amazing antagonist!
Ravi Udyawar’s movie, Mom revolves around a mother who’s teenage stepdaughter is sexually assaulted in the most gruesome fashion. In such a situation a mother has to make a choice – not between “what is wrong or right’, but between ‘what is wrong and very wrong.” MOM is the story of what will a mother do in such a situation. Will she fight for her daughter’s love knowing the consequences she may have to face? Sridevi ji left no stone unturned for this role as a Mom who seeks revenge for her daughter. No one could have emoted this better than a mother herself. Her role in this movie depicts how a woman as a mother who’s so soft can turn into an unmerciful individual when it comes to protecting her child.
Veere Di Wedding
This movie needs no introduction! The story introduces you to the four female characters and sheds light on respective complexities dealing with life, love, marriage and heartbreak! They are like any four millennial girls who live their life carefree. Audiences have rarely seen women on screen who are so uninhibited about their life, sexuality and desires. In that respect, ‘Veere Di Wedding’ is a brave effort indeed. These 4 ladies, Kareena, Sonam, Swara and Shikha rocked the movie! Definitely, this movie is one of its kind that’s a must watch for all the Veere’s out there!
Well, these were just a few on the list! There are many such female-centric movies which have left an incredible impact on the audiences. Be it Alia Bhatt in Raazi or Rani Mukherjee in Hichki, these female leads have ruled the box office like no one else did! We can proudly say today that these women are the future of this industry! They came, they conquered and now they are ruling it!
Hats off to these women and these movies who have inspired millions of us to live better. On this occasion, I would like to wish every woman who’s reading this blog, a very Happy Women’s day! Here’s to the strong women! May we know them! May we be them! May we raise them! Cheers to our womanhood 🥂
